Benefactors' Programme

"The Chisenhale's focus on commissioning new work from lesser-known artists is risky, exciting and vital for London. Its supporters know that anything we give makes an immediate and tangible difference to this great programme, often funding production of work which otherwise would not exist."
Alastair Cookson, Chisenhale Gallery Benefactor since 2009.

"The Chisenhale has always filled the need for a great public institution in this part of London... The hugely ambitious programme is always a must see with this modest space punching well above its weight."
Shane Akeroyd, Chisenhale Gallery Benefactor since 2009.

"We are so proud to support Chisenhale Gallery for its outstanding programme and its important cultural role in East London."
Nicoletta Fiorucci, Fiorucci Art Trust: Exhibitions Partner 2013

Chisenhale Gallery has enabled the realisation of major works by an international array of world-renowned artists, often establishing careers through timely solo commissions, most recently with Helen Marten, Amalia Pica, Lynette Yiadom-Boakye and Ed Atkins and in the 1990s with artists such as Rachel Whiteread, Cornelia Parker, Gillian Wearing, Sam Taylor-Wood and Wolfgang Tillmans. Our education programme is award winning and our outreach into the local community continues to expand. Friends, Patrons and Director’s Circle Patrons have an opportunity to participate directly by enabling the production of artist’s projects and thereby guaranteeing the continuation of this now legendary art space.

Chisenhale Gallery is a registered charity and part of Arts Council England’s National Portfolio. The exhibitions, events and education programmes are fundraised for in entirety through funding bodies, trusts and foundations, individuals and corporate sponsorship. We often collaborate with arts agencies and other organisations to co-produce projects.

The current economic climate means we have never needed individual support more. All funds go directly into supporting artists to produce new work and the aim is to provide opportunities for Friends, Patrons and Director’s Circle Patrons to contribute to the sustainable support of Chisenhale Gallery’s future as well as being a key part of that community.

Your support is greatly valued and appreciated and as a small-scale organisation we offer a close and engaged relationship with all the gallery’s activities. In recognition of benefactors’ support we can offer a range of benefits and activities detailed below. The most significant benefit is supporting the development of the artistic programme itself.

Tax Effective Giving

Any donation, no matter how small or large, can qualify for tax relief under Gift Aid as long as the donor is a UK tax payer. For example: if you give Chisenhale Gallery a donation of £600, the Gallery can reclaim an extra £150 from the Inland Revenue.

If you are a higher rate tax payer you can also benefit. For example: if you become a Director's Circle Patron and make a donation of £2,000, as a higher rate UK tax payer you could be entitled to claim up to £500 from the Inland Revenue. This means that your donation of £2,000 to Chisenhale would cost you only £1,500. Alternatively, if you become a Patron and make a donation of £600, as a higher rate UK tax payer you could be entitled to claim up to £150 from the Inland Revenue. This means that your donation of £600 to the Gallery would cost you only £450. Similarly if you join as a Friend and pay £200 you could be eligible to reclaim up to £50 from the Inland Revenue, meaning your donation of £200 would cost you only £150.
