Offsite includes commissions, collaborations, residencies and touring programmes all taking place outside the gallery. The core focus is on commissioning artists who have specific interests in collaboration and direct engagement with social and cultural contexts. The format aims to facilitate multi-platform outcomes, from site-specific and live events to online platforms; involving local to international partnerships, both intergenerational and interdisciplinary, and provoking unexpected outcomes.
Offsite extends the gallery’s audience reach and opens up the gallery and its activities.
Current projects include the
Neighbourhood Residency in partnership with Victoria Park (September 2012-August 2013) with Cara Tolmie and the
Chisenhale Gallery CREATE Residency (November 2012-August 2014) with Edward Thomasson.
In 2010 Ruth Ewan’s project
Dreadnoughts produced within our
A Sense of Place programme marked the initiation of
Offsite and since then we have realised
Offsite commissions with
Amalia Pica,
Matthew Noel-Tod and
Benedict Drew. In Summer 2012 we worked with Ikon Gallery in Birmingham to produce
Slow Boat Summer 2012, a collaboration with Ikon Youth Programme,
Propeller, Chisenhale Gallery’s youth forum and Benedict Drew.
