includes commissions, collaborations, residencies and touring programmes all taking place outside the gallery. The core focus is on commissioning artists who have specific interests in collaboration and direct engagement with social and cultural contexts. The format aims to facilitate multi-platform outcomes, from site-specific and live events to online platforms; involving local to international partnerships, both intergenerational and interdisciplinary, and provoking unexpected outcomes. Offsite
extends the gallery’s audience reach and opens up the gallery and its activities.
Current projects include the Chisenhale Gallery CREATE Residency
(November 2012-August 2014) with Edward Thomasson and the Chisenhale Gallery Victoria Park Residency
(November 2013 - August 2014) in partnership with Tower Hamlets Parks and Open Spaces Department.
In 2010 Ruth Ewan’s project Dreadnoughts
produced within our A Sense of Place
programme marked the initiation of Offsite
and since then we have realised Offsite
commissions with Amalia Pica
, Matthew Noel-Tod, Benedict Drew
and Cara Tolmie.
In Summer 2012 we worked with Ikon Gallery in Birmingham to produce Slow Boat Summer 2012
, a collaboration with Ikon Youth Programme, Propeller
, Chisenhale Gallery’s youth forum and Benedict Drew.
