Chisenhale Gallery Create Residency

Chisenhale Gallery Create Residency is an 18-month artists’ residency in collaboration with Create, a creative agency delivering projects in east London, which involve artists and local communities. The partnership with Create reflects our mutual interests in commissioning artists to engage with east London’s communities and its varied social and cultural contexts.

Luke Willis Thompson was the Chisenhale Gallery Create Residency artist (2016-17). For his residency, Thompson began with an exploration into the history of the riots in London in 1981 and 2011, developing a new body of work which reflects on the production and distribution of images in the wake of traumatic events. Yuri Pattison was Chisenhale Gallery Create Residency artist for 2014 -16. Throughout his residency, Pattison worked within east London’s Tech City, exploring ideas of transparency to create a new body of sculptural and video work. For more information on Pattison’s residency please click here.
For the inaugural Chisenhale Gallery Create Residency (2012-14), artist Edward Thomasson produced a new play and a film in collaboration with a group of non-professional performers from east London. For more information on Thomasson’s residency please click here.
