Slow Boat: Summer 2012 July 21 – August 25Chisenhale Gallery is collaborating with Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, on the second year of Ikon’s
Slow Boat project, bringing together the
Ikon Youth Programme (15-19 years old) and Chisenhale Gallery’s
Propeller group (15-20 years old) as they share a creative canal boat journey from Birmingham to London and back again during Summer 2012. Travelling at an average speed of four miles an hour, the journey from Birmingham to London takes two weeks.
Slow Boat will arrive in London during the second week of the Olympic Games when it will be moored for one week outside Chisenhale Gallery.
The IYP and
Propeller crew will pass through intensely contrasting landscapes, at times remote and rural, at others densely populated and industrial. The young participants will work with artists Sam Belinfante and Benedict Drew to document their summer voyage and produce a dynamic programme of activities and artworks taking place on the boat and at the gallery.
Slow Boat is supported by the
Canal & River Trust as part of its Contemporary Art on the Waterways programme.
