You’re the Boss: Art Munchkins
April 2008
During the Easter Holidays a group of local young people age 12-14 selected artist Helen Marshall to work with them in collaboration for one week as part of their art collective, Art Munchkins. Together they spent a week preparing a community art event, this included researching what constitutes a community event, how art can be integrated and improvising their own community consultation to ensure the local community would enjoy their event.

In the end the Art Munchkin’s community art event consisted of a selection of participatory artworks including: An installation of a continuously growing Rubbish Monster, which the guests could add to, a Photo Booth, where guests could use props to invent alter egos and take photographs of themselves and a paper bag Treasure hunt.

All of these activities encouraged guests to interact with the art work and consider different forms of art-making as well as communicate with other guests and the young artists.
